The first pressure washers came to Germany from the USA through the US army. Alfred Kärcher waited and repaired these devices and in 1950 he developed the first European-built high-pressure cleaners.  This first hot water pressure washer proved so innovative that it is still the basis for all manufactured burners. For high-pressure cleaners commonly used today in the home, tap water is fed through the pipe of a high-pressure pump. This then produces a water jet of up to 160 bars. The water comes out as a sharp, focused beam through the high-pressure nozzle. Some models are equipped with an internal combustion engine so they can be used in the woods and in fields without electricity.
